Football Finals

The G.A.A. scene is very much alive and well at Barefield N.S. at present. Since the beginning of term, boys and girls throughout the school have been hitting the playing pitches on a weekly basis.

The junior boys, from first, second and third classes, train every Thursday from 3-4pm under the guidance of Mr. Conroy and Mr. Murray. The junior girl’s football team train on Tuesdays from 3-4pm with Ms. Eyers and Ms. Cullinan. The senior girls meet on Mondays with Ms. Baker and Ms. Deloughery while the boys tog out on Mondays and Wednesdays with Mr. McMahon and Mr. Keane.

The school have had a great start to the year in Gaelic football, winning the Girls Division 1 football title on Wednesday last at Clarecastle with the boys also having a successful outing in taking home the Division 2 Cumann na mBunscol title at the same venue. Great scenes of celebration were witnessed throughout the school after these finals.

Hurling is also buzzing in the school, with club coach Danielle Sheedy taking classes from Senior Infants to sixth on Mondays and Tuesdays. The hurling competitions will take place in term 3 and hopefully the school will bring more silverware to the school.

Great credit is due to the teachers who pass on their love of Gaelic games to their eager pupils. Numbers participating in Gaelic Games at the school are on the increase and hopefully these young boys and girl will wear the maroon and white with honour for many years to come.
