Music is a very large aspect of the School's Curriclum. It is divided into two sections;
Our Music teacher Mr. Denis Liddy teaches music after school for half an hour. In 2000 our Ceili bands were very sucessful. The under 12 ceili band came first in the County, Munster and All Ireland Fleadh Ceili Band competion. It was a great honour to have this title. Due to winning the All Ireland Fleadh we have been asked to travel to New York for Ten days in May 2001. The Under 15's will travel to Toronto also in 2001 due to our C.D., IOLAR which has been very sucessful.
Iolar means eagle in Irish. This is our first release and Senator Labhrás Ó Murchú launched at the Aos Óg Concert at the Fleadh Nua in May 1999.
Barefield Ceili Band
Barefield Ceili Band is a youthful, vibrant bunch of children ranging in age from thirteen to seventeen. From 1995-98 the band members attended the local National School in Barefield, on the outskirts of Ennis, Co.Clare, which is renowned for its commitment to Irish arts and culture. The friendships developed in the schoolyard and the music flourished on a daily basis in school. They entered every competition available and did extremely well very quickly. The band has featured on All-Ireland prize-winning lists for the under 12 and the 12-15 age groups at Fleadh Cheoil na h-Eireann, every year since 1997. In May 1999, Senator Labhras O'Murchu launched the "Iolar" CD at Fleadh Nua in Ennis. This debut CD has encouraged many others to follow suit and it has been very successful. May 2000 saw the band travel to Manchester, UK for the annual Clare Association week-end and they are scheduled to return there in 2001. In July 2000, several members of the band travelled to the south of France for the Voiron International festival. In the Summer of 2000, the band formed a "Seisiun" group which performed weekly in Cois na hAbhna, Ennis. Their visit to Toronto in April 2001 for Toronto 2001 - A Musical Odyssey, the 50th Anniversary & North American Convention of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, will be the highlight of their young lives. Quotable Quotes "They're good you know." John Lynch, leader of the Kilfenora Ceili Band. "They are unbelievably husiastic." Jackie Daly "An amazing accomplishment for such a young group which shows a maturity way beyond their tender years." Senator Labhras OMurchu. "They never stopped playing for three days solid." Joe Cullinan, Chairman of the Clare-Manchester Association. |
