It’s another busy year on the sporting front in Barefield National School. To date this year, the senior girl’s football have won the division 1 football final, when they defeated Ennis National in a tremendous game. The boy’s senior football team narrowly lost the division 2 football final in a thrilling game against Clonlara National School. While the indoor hurlers qualified for the county final, only to lose by a narrow margin to Kilmurry National School. The swimmers finished second in the county swimming Gala.
Alan Small (hurling) and Ronan Keane (football) visit the school on a weekly basis coaching the children from first to sixth classes as part of the county coaching programme. Teachers volunteer to coach children after school hours throughout the year. Basketball, junior and senior hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, cross country running and athletics are all part of the after school programme. Gymnastics, tag rugby and soccer are further sporting activities in which the school participates, winning the soccer competition last year.
