The school vegetable garden
We have recently set up a school vegetable garden growing carrots, parsnips, onions, lettuce, turnips, potatoes and cabbage in four raised beds.
In addition senior infants and fifth class took part in the Incredible Edibles Garden Challenge. We planted carrots, strawberry plants, lettuce, turnips and potatoes. Both classes explored the topic of food, with senior infants making butter and fifth class making bread. A healthy eating action was undertaken. We had a fruit and vegetable party. The children brought in and tasted a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. Activities also took place at home with children going shopping for food and cooking simple dishes with their parents. We achieved the gold award for completing the five tasks set out in the challenge.

An enjoyable experience!
