The Year of the Forests - Celebrating Forests for People
Mr Seamus Hassett, National Parks and Wildlife Services, has kindly offered the pupils of fifth class an opportunity to participate in a guided, educational tour of Dromore Woods on October 6th as part of the wide programme of events which is being organised to mark National Tree Week 2011.
This year the theme is ‘The Year of the Forest – Celebrating Forests for People”, in keeping with the United Nations designation of 2011 as ‘The International Year of Forests’. People are asked to celebrate trees and forests as an integral part of their lives and their communities.
This project is in line with curriculum principles i.e. it is hands on and experiential, it uses the local environment, it provides a stimulus for an exploration of global themes and presents opportunities for a range of cross curricular activities.
